Leaf-Peeping Spots Around Richmond, VA

Maymont - Richmond, VA

Address: 1000 Westover Rd., Richmond, VA 23220

On the eve of its 100th anniversary, Maymont continues to be one of RVA's more beloved attractions for both locals and visitors. The 100-acre property, perched high above the James River, was once the stunning Gilded Age home of James and Sallie Dooley. The Dooleys bequeathed Maymont as a public space, featuring spectacular gardens such as:

  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Carriage House
  • Via Florum

Kids can get up close and personal with animals at Maymont Farm and spot bald eagles, deer, and other "residents" along the Virginia Wildlife Trail. Hours are 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. daily, and admission is free, although donations are welcome.

Monument Avenue Historic District - Richmond, VA

Address: 2500 Monument Ave., Richmond, VA 23230

Monument Avenue Historic District demonstrates some of the qualities that make Richmond such a wonderful place to live. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon or early-evening stroll along the iconic street that features majestic Gilded Age homes in the midst of beautiful surroundings, including a 40-foot tree-lined median. Thanks to the picturesque setting, Monument Avenue hosts a number of events such as the Monument Avenue 10K and Easter on Parade. In 1970, Monument Avenue became one of only a few streets named to the National Register of Historic Places.
